The title couldn't be more closer to the truth than saying the sun is hot. Sure Blogging is about writing relative articles about valid information for readers to view, but it can most likely become a popularity contest on the internet. We have the Alexa ranking system to tell you what your traffic score is compared to other websites online (at the time of this writing mine is 2,813,398.) And from information like this ad companies can figure what sites they want to be displayed on based upon traffic, and thusly deciding on how much money should be made per ad viewing. Internet is serious business, no?
Well for those of us who have low ranking websites and can't make squat off of ads either way, wouldn't it be nice to know how popular your articles are? Well you can. I've seemed to keep overlooking the small things that matter but as I was getting my ShareThis plugin I noticed the Popularity-Contest plugin also made by Alex King. I was completely surprised at the findings. Within one minute of installation my numbers jumped from 12% to 60%. This is one fantastic plugin for those bloggers who feel like they are being under noticed in the blogoshphere. It surely boosted my morale so much that I had to post about it.
